‘Right up there with my favourite rosados in Rioja, this is an off-the-wall co-fermentation of mostly Viura with 25% Garnacha, 20% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Grenache Gris. Left on skins for 15 days, it's a complex, layered wine with subtle reduction, quince and wild strawberry flavours and subtle oak sweetness. 2023-26.’ – Tim Atkin MW, 2023 Rioja Report, 93/100

‘The new, brilliant rosé 2018 Suañé Rosado Reserva is very different from your everyday rosé and has lots of personality and character. It's a dark pink/orange wine with a wild nose of yeasts, sesame seeds and spices, produced in a Reserva category, which is also unusual. It's a blend of 50% Viura, 30% Garnacha and 20% Sauvignon Blanc with 13% alcohol and a pH of 3.3. So, it's medium-bodied and has plenty of freshness and vibrant acidity that makes you salivate. The white grapes macerated with their skins, and then the Garnacha was added three days later with the full clusters; the fermentation with the skins lasted for 15 days and was spontaneous (indigenous yeasts). It's also marked by the skin contact and has some common notes with their whites, the mouthfeel too; it's chalky, with fine tannins and lively acidity, finishing long, dry, tasty and salty. Producer information Alonso & Pedrajo is a project born out of a friendship between Javier Alonso and Alberto Pedrajo. Started in 2011, they have since being crafting their wines from very old and newly planted vines in the village of Villalba de Rioja. 70% of their grapes come from around the village making up their three wine collections: La Pequeñita, Sauñé and Valdinero. Their wines are experimental, exciting and elegant characterized by its clay-calcareous soils as well as their continental and Atlantic climates.
