Young Gun independents
The new, should-be-on-you-radar winemakers
Since the early 2000s, Wine Cellar has been scouring the winelands, unearthing the young, talented winemakers who are set to produce tomorrow's greatest wines. With a host of new labels, niche grape varieties and different styles, we look at home-grown Young Gun independents who've read the textbooks, adjusted the rules and continue to push the boundaries. We now bring you some of the most exciting 'new kids on the block' and their current, vinous projects.
Look out for classics like Chenin, Syrah and Cinsault as well as the lesser-known, skin-contact Sémillon and Verdelho from across the Cape – Elgin, Sondagskloof, Stellenbosch and Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. For the classicists and the geeks alike – all in stock now.
Billed to be the show of the year, we're keen (and thirsty) to host our 9th edition of Wine Cellar's Young GunsTM as soon as it's safe to do so. While we try and find workable dates for 2022, we will continue our search for avant-garde producers and incredible wines.
