Pick & Mix
Rosé has been 'on the up' for the last 10 years and is massively on-trend, both locally and internationally. Historically, South African rosés tended to be more sweet and fruity with very little complexity, but this has changed. We're now seeing more subtle rosés with pure fruit, refreshing dryness and savoury, textured palates – making these great food wines.

This trend caught our attention and so, we set out to taste over 30 exciting rosés and came up with Wine Cellar’s top 6, which we've put into a pick & mix pack.

Pio Cesare, Rosy Langhe 2020
'We named it 'Rosy' to dedicate it to the Founder's granddaughter. Savory, fresh, spicy, great structure, amber-colored. Produced in very small quantities.' – Pio Cesare

Leeuwenkuil, Rosé 2021
'Handsomely packaged, copper-hued dry & elegant 2021 follows previous styling though now 100% cinsaut. Nothing tutti-frutti, there’s restraint in the soft red berries, some scrub notes & an earthy quality (in a good way) in the flavours. Serious rosé. No 2020.' – Platter's Guide, 4*

Lievland, Liefkoos Rosé 2021
'Is this the Whispering Angel of South Africa? It certainly looks the part. Marrying Syrah and 30% Mourvèdre, it's a pale, floral, rose petal scented pink with a hint of subtle reduction, cranberry and raspberry fruit and a dry finish. Drink 2021-24.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 91/100

La Brune, The Valley Pinot Noir Rosé 2021
'Nico Grobler uses the bigger berried PN B25 sparkling wine clone to make this pale, delicate, yet well-focused rosé. Light and floral, with notes of peonies and rose petals and crunchy cranberry and wild strawberry fruit. Drink 2021-23.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 90/100

Baleia, Deborah Rosé 2021
'Sunset pink 2021, off-dry this vintage, usual intricate weave of varieties, 2 each white & red. Gains engaging spiciness from 20% old oak. WO Cape South Coast, as Port.' – Platter's Guide, 3.5*

Pesquié, Côtes de Provence Le Paradou Rosé 2020
'A soft rosé lightened by a dash of white Vermentino in the blend, this wine is ready to drink. With grapes from the Mont Sainte Victoire region, the wine has depth as well as plenty of red-currant fruitiness. Drink now.' – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 88/100
