The Vineyard Party, I'm Your Huckleberry 2020 – R 265
‘The 2020 I'm Your Huckleberry is much more backward on the nose compared to the previous vintage, opening gradually in the glass. Yellow plum, touches of ginger and a subtle flor-like scent. The palate is well balanced with a tangy opening, touches of orange rind and allspice, though I feel that the 2019 has more complexity on the finish. Fine. 2023-2030’ – Neal Martin, Vinous
Silverthorn, Jewel Box 2018 – R 445
‘"I want it to be as full as possible, but not lose finesse", says John Loubser of this remarkable cuvée of Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir. Using barrel-fermentation on the former variety, with the addition of 15% reserve wine, this combines sourdough bread and hazelnut aromas with a palate of dried mushroom, citrus and patisserie. 2024-30’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2023, 96/100
Reyneke, Organic Chenin Blanc 2022 – R 120
'Delicate subtlety to 2021, with stonefruit, florality & leesy breadth mingling harmoniously. Textured from 3 months on lees, rich & lingering. Stellenbosch WO, rest of these W Cape.' – Platter's Guide, 3.5*
Torre de Oña Finca San Martín Crianza 2019 – R 265
‘The 2019 Finca San Martín is pure Tempranillo from the younger vines on richer soils, the grapes not used for Martelo that deliver rounder and fruitier wines. It fermented in stainless steel for 14 days with a slow malolactic of 74 days and matured in 60% new American oak barrels and 40% second-use French oak barrels for 16 months. It's round and fruity, with juicy fruit, round tannins and a gentle mouthfeel. It was bottled in September 2021. 2022 - 2026’ – Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, 91+/100
Laventura, Malvasia 2021 – R 325
‘South African Bryan MacRobert uses grapes from the high part of a 1955 vineyard in Leza to produce this Malvasía Blanca, fermenting the result on skins for a week before ageing in a concrete egg. Citrus, quince and orange peel flavours are complemented by a nip of tannin. 2023-26’ – Tim Atkin MW, Rioja Report 2023, 91/100
Chapoutier, Bila-Haut Rouge 2021 – R 185
‘Aromas of dark cherries, leaves, gunpowder and baking spices. It’s medium-bodied with crunchy dark cherries and some black pepper on the palate. Transparent and precise with a flavorful finish. From biodynamically grown grapes.’ – James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, 91/100
