Moya Meaker, Pinot Noir 2018 – R 250
'The nose shows floral perfume before red and black fruit plus a hint of reduction. The palate shows lovely fruit purity, fresh acidity and fine tannins. The wine has some breadth (alcohol is 14%) but it’s not weighty and comes across as very deftly made.' – Christian Eedes, 93/100
Radford Dale, Vinum Chenin Blanc 2017 – R 150
‘The core of this wine is a 48-year-old vineyard on the Helderberg. It’s all about fruit, with only 30% of wooded material, subtle skin contact for some grip, bracing acidity and flavours of pear, wet stones and spicy, palate-coating concentration. Drink: 2019-25.' – Tim Atkin MW, 93/100
Waterkloof, Circumstance Mourvèdre 2017 – R 190
‘One of a comparatively small number of Cape Mourvèdres – it's a variety that generally needs friends to perform at its best - this is suitably dense, savoury and compact with aromas of lavender and incense and plenty of grip and backbone. Should age well in bottle. Drink 2020-27.’ – Tim Atkin MW, 91/100
Van Loggerenberg Wines, Break a Leg Blanc de Noir 2019 – R 140
‘This is not about overt aromatics and flavours although there is a vague sense of blood orange both on the nose and palate. Rather, it is all about texture and energy – the fruit is pure, the acidity fresh, the finish nicely dry. It’s tightly wound, altogether less accessible than previous incarnations and consequently more serious. The best SA pink I’ve tasted in a long time.’ – Christian Eedes, 91/100
Callender Peak, Winterhoek Sauvignon Blanc 2018 – R 125
'Stone-fruit and green melon with subtle oak nuances on the nose. The palate is mineral and citrus-driven with struck match and nutty lees flavours. A fresh almost limey acidity contributes to the wine’s length and gives balance to the creamy texture of the barrel-fermented component.' – Callender Peak
Chapoutier, Les Vignes de Bila-Haut Blanc 2017 – R 150
'Bila Haut's entry-level white is a super value. A blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Macabeu, Vermentino and Marsanne, the 2017 Côtes du Roussillon les Vignes de Bila Haut Blanc is plump, round and richly textured in the mouth, yet it's also refreshing, with vibrant flavors of tangerine zest underscored by briny notes on the finish.' – Wine Advocate, 90/100
