Vinicole d'Arbois, Chardonnay Terre de Marne 750ml 2015France, Jura
The Vinicole d'Arbois is one of the first cooperative wineries ever established in France. It was formed in 1906 at the instigation of 26 wine growers from the town of Arbois. At that time, vines had been nearly decimated by the phylloxera blight and the market was occupied by inferior wines without any designation of origin. The cooperative’s growers decided to provide a collective high-quality solution by banking on the viticultural potential of Jura wines.
Their pursuit contributed to Arbois obtaining the first AOC label in France in 1936. The AOC Arbois was followed a few years later by the AOC Côtes du Jura. Since 1969, the cooperative has had its premises in the heart of Arbois; installing a wine cellar and top-quality vinification facilities and moving towards an environmentally friendly approach through in integrated farming.
Today, it continues to be an adventure of work and passion to ensure the authenticity and identity of the outstanding Arbois wines. The Fruitière Vinicole d’Arbois currently has close to 100 members over a wine-producing area of about 250 hectares, for an annual production of more than one million bottles of Jura wines.
'This wine comes from a fine selection of best vines of Chardonnay. The red marl, blue or gray are the specificity of our soil, they imprint their style on the aromatic palette of our wine. After a soft pressing, the juice is clarified and then brought on slow fermentations. The wine is aged on the lees, partly in vats and the other party in barrels of oak for 12 months and then assembled. The color is light yellow, nose exalts notes of white flowers, the mouth is frank and lively on honeyed aromas.' – Château Béthanie
