The grapes come from the famous Schaapenberg Vineyard on the Schaapenberg Hill. This hill functioned as Governor Van der Stels’ look out for ships rounding Cape Point. The 2.5 hectare single vineyard was planted in 1988 and is located 6,5 km from False Bay, directly south-facing at 320 meters above sea level.

Tasting notes:
'This is a single vineyard bottling from a 2.34-hectare site at 320 metres on the Schapenberg, which is the coolest on the estate. Wild yeast fermented and left on its skins for 48 hours, it's a very ambitious white that's saline, tangy and focused with stony minerality. Drink 2019-25.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 94/100

'The cool, wind-swept sea-facing tract of Schaapenberg Hill yields unmistakably pungent, flinty flavours. 2018 single-vineyard follows form with striking minerality, sublime poise & elegance. Fermented/8-9 months in 2,500L Austrian oak ovals.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (93/100)

'The 2018 Schaapenberg Sauvignon Blanc is extremely aromatic with ripe passion fruit and ripe guava, black currant leaf, a touch of lemongrass and good minerality. The aftertaste is long and clean. Serve with fresh oysters, sushi and lightly spicy Cape Malay cuisine.' – Winemaker
