'Tall, dark & handsome, confidently modern but with classic sympathies. 03 (with 8% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot) has youthful bouquet cedar, blackcurrants, powerful but smooth tannins: combo of fine deep fruit & structure signalling rewarding maturation over decade or so. Near 2 years oak, 70% new, well carried.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2005, 4.5*
'Heavyweight, fruit-centric. Isn’t quite as rewarding as the 2005. Tannins are more drying and less lustrous.' (Tasted in 2012) - Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20
'Cassis, herbs, char and a touch of green pepper create an interesting bouquet, while the palate is supple, creamy and delivers nice cassis and forest-floor flavors. A finely made wine in a classic Bordeaux style.' (Tasted in 2006) - Wine Enthusiast, 88/100
'Mature, but still has some heft, with loamy tannins driving cedar, coffee, black currant and bittersweet cocoa notes. A solid example of the style. I don't think cellaring will tame this brawny red any further.' (Tasted in 2007) - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 88/100
