Van Loggerenberg Wines Trust your Gut Chenin Blanc 2020 Bottle size: 750ml
South Africa, Western Cape
R385
'60% of grapes sourced from Paardeberg and 40% Polkadraai Hills. “Batman and Superman both have their strengths but what if they joined forces?” is winemaker Lukas van Loggerenberg’s rhetorical question by way of introduction to this wine and the outcome of blending Swartland with Stellenbosch is something formidable. The nose shows citrus and peach with slight notes of struck match, wet wool, and talcum powder in the background. The palate, meanwhile, is extraordinarily compact and concentrated with bracing acidity and a finish that goes on and on. It’s a wonderfully precise, well-proportioned, and nuanced wine.' – Christian Eedes, WineMag.co.za, 98/100
Winemaker's notes on the label:
We all have this inner instinct telling us what to do and sometimes you really just have to trust your gut to tell you what the right move is. I sourced grapes from special vineyards to use in this blend, which I believe is a great example of a wine that is made up of components that come together to provide a wine that is greater than the sum of its individual parts. All the pictures on the label are in some way symbolizing to trust your gut to give you direction like a compass provides to a sailor and like a bee just knows where it has to go to find pollen and make honey. The stamp is to emphasize our South African heritage.

Producer information | Van Loggerenberg Wines was started by Lukas and wife Roxanne with their first vintage in 2016. The 2019 vintage is the fourth release for Lukas – a rising star, Young Gun and 2018 Young Winemaker of the Year by Tim Atkin. Lukas grew up in Rawsonville in the Breederivier valley, and was always surrounded by vineyards and wine. His wines are produced in the Devon Valley and the grapes are sourced from Stellenbosch, Paarl and Swartland. Each wine and it’s name has a specific story behind it and his wines have become extremely sought-after. ‘Pretty damn hot,’ says Christian Eedes raving about his previous releases. |
