| Producer information | From Emanuelle Reynaud’s outstanding Vacqueyras properties called Château des Tours. An estate of nearly 40 hectares, Château des Tours fashions exceptional reds and whites, incredibly well priced, from Grenache noir, Cinsault, Syrah, Counoise, Merlot, Grenache blanc and Clairette blanche.
With a tiny production and a fanatical global following, there has been a dramatic increase in secondary market values. The wines’ quality, rarity, and ageability, coupled with its idiosyncratic generational proprietors and the general air of mystery that surround Rayas has resulted in this Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge selling for more than $1000 a bottle on the open market. As such, we are happy to bring you the wines well below global market price. Château Rayas’ wines are all about the vineyards and the terroir with many practices running contrary to other properties in Châteauneuf. Most of the 13 hectares (15 plots) of low-yielding old vines are north-east facing, tucked away in a forest, the poor soil comprises of sand and clay and contain none of the famous galets roulés. These factors allow for a cool and wet microclimate. This is one of the reasons why there exists a seamless elegance in Emmanuel Reynaud’s wines, not typically associated with robust, riper style of wines from the Southern Rhône. |
