‘Sheer class’ – Tim Atkin, 97 points
‘The 2017 is the third release of Telos and benefits from that exceptional vintage, making it the best yet’. – Christian Eedes, 96 points
The Tokara Telos 2017 is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend of profound quality, created to compete with the best in the world. This super-limited Stellenbosch release is produced from a tiny 19-year-old single vineyard that’s meticulously farmed. As with previous releases, the 2017 is elegant and understated rather than showy. ‘There's no denying the complexity or sheer class of this cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon,’ notes Tim Atkin MW, awarding it 97 points!
This is a wine for the collector and connoisseur to enjoy on those special occasions, assured that every possible effort has gone in to producing something remarkable. We only have a small allocation of this icon-in-the-making.
The Ferreira’s vision was to produce Tokara’s best possible wine. Fastidious trials began in 2005, employing various ‘prototype’ wines until the first Telos was released in 2015, to great acclaim. Essential to the grace and power of the 2017 is the wine’s exceptional terroir – a 0.5-hectare block of Cabernet Sauvignon on the Tokara estate. The soil is a perfect mix of clay derived from ancient, decomposed granite and gravel. The clay’s affinity to binding water allows for the very slow ripening of tannins, resulting in a stronger tannin structure overall. Like all great wines, Telos is made in the vineyard.
Considerable investment and attention to detail in the vineyard, winemaking, and packaging has brought the Ferreira’s vision to fruition. This is a wine of vinous ambition cosseted in luxury – a rare release of only 1,000 numbered bottles.
