In the middle of 2016 John and Tasha commissioned a writer friend to write a series of short children’s stories about growing up the Cape. They used these stories as the inspiration for the names for their red wines.

Blend: 66% Grenache noir, 23% Mourvèdre and 11% Syrah

Tasting notes:
'66% Grenache, 21% Mourvèdre and 12% Shiraz – no Cinsault in this vintage and arguably more refined as a result. A pretty nose with top notes of flowers, herbs and spice before wild berry. The palate is light-bodied with lovely fruit purity, fresh acidity and powdery tannins. Accessible without being simple, this has lip-smacking refreshment value.' – Christian Eedes, WineMag.co.za, 92/100

'The 2019 Wanderer’s Heart is our Cape Red – a wine that is built around the incredible vineyards found all over the Western Cape. Aromas of ruby grapefruit, dark red berries and cassia bark. The wine is poised on the palate with soft, chalky tannins, which give way to a finish of black cherries, cedar wood and cinnamon. The wine is bright and keenly balanced, very pure in its fruit with a dusting of fine tannin to complete the picture.' – Winemaker

Alc: 13.8% | RS: 2.4 g/L | TA: 5.2 g/L | PH: 3.57

About Thorne & Daughters:
Thorne & Daughters Wines was started in 2012 by John and Tasha Seccombe with the aim to produce authentic wines in the beautiful Western Cape. John works with grapes from all over the Cape and seems to have a particularly refined aesthetic when it comes to winemaking. His Thorne and Daughters family concern is truly pushing the boundaries with old vines and simple, natural winemaking.
