‘Aromas of citrus, orange blossom and toasted brioche. The richly layered, and expressive palate is kept in line by a searing acidity finishing with a sherbet tang.’ – Thistle and Weed

This vintage has not been rated yet, see vintage 2020 below

'Exquisite 2020 blend verdelho, chenin, palomino & fernão pires (41/37/12/10), widely sourced, year in oak. Peardrop, stonefruit, ripe pineapple & clementine on a complex, dense palate with undertones of wax & honey, spice lift to end. Loads of energy here. Improves on captivating 2019 (4.5 stars, 94 pts). Unfiltered, like Springdoring.' – Platter's Guide, 5* (95/100)

'41% Verdelho from Stellenbosch, 37% Chenin Blanc from Paarl, 12% Palomino from Piekenierskloof and 10% Fernão Pires from outside Worcester. Exotic aromatics of pear, peach, grapefruit and pineapple plus earth and a slight waxy note. The palate has dense fruit but equally plenty of drive, the finish long and savoury. A fascinating wine with lots going on.' – Christian Eedes,, 94/100

'Aromas of naartjie peel, jasmine flowers and toasted brioche. The richly layered, and expressive palate is kept in line by a searing acidity finishing with a sherbet tang.' – Stephanie Wiid, Winemaker

Producer information Thistle and Weed was created in 2015 by Fairview winemaker Stephanie Wiid and Delheim viticulturist Etienne Terblanche. These Young Gunners first burst onto the scene with their maiden-release 2016 Thistle & Weed Duwweltjie Chenin Blanc which garnered a Platter’s 5 star. They produce artisan wines, focusing primarily on Chenin Blanc, and their grapes are sourced from organic and responsibly farmed vineyards from different parts of the Cape.
