The brandnetel (Urtica dioica ) - or stinging nettle - is steeped in dualities: both fierce and soft; painful and restorative; tenacious yet humble. This often-overlooked weed brings magic to fairytales, protection in folklore and vitality to soils. Inspired by these dualities, this unique wine, made from Chenin Blanc vines perched on the slopes overlooking Stellenbosch, reminds us that magic is woven into our lives from the soil to the glass

Tasting notes:
'From a Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc vineyard planted in 1980 with 32 different rootstocks for trial purposes. Yellow fruit, spice and some yeasty complexity on the nose while the palate is relatively rich and broad with tangy acidity. Plenty of upfront flavour but ends slightly short.' – Christian Eedes,, 92/100

'Quince, white peach, bloedlemoen and candied lemon on the nose. The palate is rich and more-ish, gentle oaking provides the stage for a citrus bonanza finishing with a lemon zip acidity.' – Winemaker

Alc: 13% | RS: 1.9 g/L | TA: 5.6 g/L | PH: 3.38

About Thistle and Weed:
Thistle and Weed was created in 2015 by Fairview winemaker Stephanie Wiid and Delheim viticulturist Etienne Terblanche. These Young Gunners first burst onto the scene with their maiden-release 2016 Thistle & Weed Duwweltjie Chenin Blanc which garnered a Platter’s 5 star. They produce artisan wines, focusing primarily on Chenin Blanc, and their grapes are sourced from organic and responsibly farmed vineyards from different parts of the Cape.
