'The latest in a series of fine Rabelais releases, the 2020 marries Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot and has all the intensity, structure and concentration that you'd expect. Lavender and eucalyptus scented, with graceful, perfumed new wood, it's herbal and refreshing with a core of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. 2025-35' – Tim Atkin, MW, South African Special Report 2022, 96/100
'Range-topping blend of 90% cab with petit verdot, 2020 is pure class. Sublime varietal expression, earthy yet refined, seductive cassis highlighted with liquorice & tobacco, ample but supple body. Outshines excellent 2019 (4.5 stars, 94 pts). Built for the long road.' – Platter's Guide, 5* (95/100)

Producer information | The name Thelema comes from the Abbey of Thélème, a place dreamt up by François Rabelais. He was a monk, a doctor and a writer in sixteenth-century France and his utopian Abbey went against the religious ideals of the day. Rabelais’ motto was ‘laughing and drinking are the proper characteristics of man...for by wine we become divine.’ Since Rabelais spent a lot of time thinking about and writing memorable quotes on wine, Thelema saw it fitting to name their vineyards after him. |
