Diemersdal The Journal Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 was awarded Gold (96/100) in the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2021.
'Matured for 22 months in 225-litre barrels, 100% new. Top notes of tea leaf and incense before red and black berries plus oak spice on the nose. The palate is full but balanced with a real succulence about it thanks to lovely pure fruit and fresh acidity. This has really good structure, the tannins firm but fine making for a finish that is long and dry.' – Prescient Cabernet Sauvignon Report 2020, Top 10

'Everything set for a long, rewarding future: 22 months in 100% new French barrels have given the rich cassis & ripe plum fruit a fine texture, burnished the tannins. 2018 still brooding, held in a firm graphite grip, but underlying succulence will ensure delicious drinking well into the 2030s. Cape Town WO, as all these.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (94/100)

'Rebranded as The Journal - it was previously the MM Louw bottling - this pure Cabernet Sauvignon is ripe, intense and concentrated, made with one eye on the future. Tannic, firm and dense, with cigar box, damson and blackcurrant flavours, good acidity and wellintegrated new oak. Drink 2023-28.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 92/100

Producer information Diemersdal Estate dates back to 1698 and continues to practice the art of winemaking established by the Louw’s who were granted ownership of the estate in 1885. Diemersal is a well-known landmark in the Durbanville valley with 180 hectares of vines grown on deep red Hutton soils, featuring decomposed granite and high clay contents – making for a unique terrior. The wines are an expression of the minimalistic approach to winemaking showing old and new world styles.
