‘A seductive array of wild strawberries and black cherries combine with autumnal spices, frankincense and minty herbs as the 2019 Etna Rosso Santo Spirito comes to life in the glass. I’ve never witnessed such a blending of rich, primary, ripe red fruits and fleshy textures from this vineyard in the past, yet balance is kept expertly in check through a core of vibrant acidity. This leans toward the savory spectrum through the finale, as plum sauce and inner rose resonate over a coating of sweet tannin. It gets an official “wow” in my book, as with only a short stay in the cellar, you can expect the 2019 to be a drop-dead gorgeous rendition of Terre Nere’s Santo Spirito. 2023 - 2030.’ – Eric Guido, Vinous, 94/100

‘This Etna red has so much going for it, but the amerena-cherry aroma is very ripe and, on the palate, the first impression is of suppleness that we don’t immediately associate with this appellation. Lovely balance right now, thanks to the full body and moderate tannins. Good length, but only moderate tension at the finish.’ – James Suckling, 93/100

‘A firm and focused red, compact and medium- to full-bodied, this is creamy on the palate, where it shows notes of chopped black cherries, milled white pepper, red licorice and bay leaf. Features a streak of racy minerality that chimes in on the finish, where the tannic frame also reemerges. Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. Best after 2023.’ – Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator, 92/100

Producer information Marc de Grazia is the owner and founder of Tenuta Delle Terre Nere and considered by many to be the pioneer in putting the region of Etna on the map. He was the driving force behind convincing the Italian wine industry the value of demarcating Contrada within their wine producing areas. Marc is a big fan of this classification system and has integrated the model into his own lineup. It is this kind of thinking and investigating that has made Marc and Terre Nere so successful. According to Robert Parker, ‘Terre Nere’s wines all possessed unbelievable freshness and complexity as well as huge perfumes that suggested Pinot Noir…These wines are astonishingly complex and ethereal efforts from the hillsides of Mt. Etna in Sicily.’
