For those who haven’t tasted Terre Nere’s Etna Rosso, you are missing out! As one of the region’s revolutionary producers, their wines offer a unique brightness of fruit, combined with Burgundian nuances. The Etna Rosso is produced from younger vineyards, high up on the northern slopes, from the local variety Nerello Mascalese. It really dazzles with pure, sweet fruit, fine spice and haunting depth, all wrapped in richly ripe, powerful tannins and coated in a fine acidity. The 2017 is one of the finest vintages we have tasted and offers great value.

Blend: 95% Nerello Mascalese, 5% Nerello Cappuccio

Tasting notes:
'Bright red. Pure nose offers red cherry and raspberry fruit aromas complicated by herbs and minerals. Suave and rather tightly wound, but nicely lifted by salty minerality that accentuates the bright red fruit flavors. Finishes firmly tannic but not drying, with outstanding persistence. Simply a great entry level Etna Rosso.' – Ian D'Agata, Vinous, 92/100

'The 2017 Etna Rosso is a beautiful wine that manages to effectively communicate both the elegance and the power of this stellar appellation in Sicily. There is also a straightforward or straight-shooting aspect to the wine that adds to its focus and the sharpness of its aromatic delivery. Bright acidity and fine tannins add to that linearity and simplicity. This is 95% Nerello Mascalese with 5% Nerello Cappuccio. The wine is fermented in large oak casks, and it ages in large oak containers for up to 18 months.' – Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, 91/100

'This medium-bodied red is creamy and finely balanced overall, though a firm core of tannins structures the flavors of crushed raspberry, cherry and tangy mineral, with hints of dried marjoram and woodsy spice. Fresh and lovely. Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. Drink now through 2026.' – Wine Spectator, 91/100

Our favourite Italian red, grown on the black soils of Mt. Etna, is now organic. What does this mean? Most notably, it offers peace of mind that fewer chemicals have made their way into your glass, and your body, as well as having less impact on the environment. It’s unlikely that you’ll taste the difference from conventionally farmed wines but the mindset of organic wine growing often leads to more elegant, balanced and characterful wines.
