Laventura Tempranillo is made from vineyards in Laguardia in Rioja Alavesa above 520m on the Southern slopes of the Sierra Cantabria. The cooler Atlantic climate from the North combines with the warmer Mediterranean climate from the South creating the ideal conditions for red wines. Tempranillo grapes ripen easily and retain good acidity and freshness due to the limestone soils. Aged in big barrels that preserves the fruit aromas of the Tempranillo.

Tasting notes:
'The red 2017 Laventura Tempranillo was produced with grapes from two vineyards, one in Labastida and the other one in Laguardia. This is the one red I tasted that seemed to take the 2017 heat better, and the wine is not far from the 2016. Yes, it's a little riper, and the fruit is a tad darker, but the wine keeps its poise and composition. It has balance and harmony, and there is only a touch of riper fruit on the finish. It finishes dry. 3,300 bottles were filled after 12 months in 500-liter oak barrels.' – Luis Gutiérrez, Wine advocate, 92/100

'This wine has a medium ruby colour with primary fruit aromas of raspberries, redcurrant, red cherried, black cherries, black berries and plums. Light secondary aromas of oak, brioche, and vanilla due to the lees contact and ageing for one year in barrel. The palate is textured with a present tannin. Good acidity, body and length. Good ageing potential on this wine.' – Winemaker

Producer information Former Young Gun, Bryan MacRobert, moved to Rioja 7 years ago to start Laventura. Today, his new terroir-driven wines are causing a fuss! ‘I want to make Rioja as it once was. I’m trying to make honest wines,’ says Bryan whose wines are refreshing, innovative and true-to-terroir style of Rioja. With cellars located in the centre of La Rioja, they source high-quality grapes from the whole region. The vineyards are often 40 to 90 years old and harvesting is done by hand. ‘It’s time to take Rioja far more seriously,’ writes Tim Atkin MW as the Rioja landscape changes dramatically.
