‘Complex, alluring 2015 follows previous in restraint & subtlety. Dark berries & graphite, elegant structure from 60% new French oak, 18 months. Classic, tailored & long. Fine future. Dash merlot.’ – Fiona McDonald, Platter’s Guide, 4.5*(93/100)

'New World style of Cabernet Sauvignon, with voluptuous fruit and complexity, bold, yet ripe tannin structure. Southfacing vines on an elevated hill of granite, thriving on a combination of crumbled rock and clay, the result of countless years of decomposition; consequently, the wine is named ‘Granietbult’ translating to ‘granite hill/hump’ from Afrikaans. Cold soaked for 10 days at 8ºC under a CO2 blanket. Thereafter the wine was fermented up to a maximum temperature of 28º Celsius. Pumped over 3 times daily to maintain a low temperature in the cap of solids. 30 days post-maceration. Both free-run and press juice were used. 18 months in French oak barrels, of which 30% is new.' – Mount Sutherland

Producer information Daniël de Waal, proprietor and winemaker of Super Single Vineyards wines, produces Pella Wines and Mount Sutherland Wines. Mount Sutherland wines came about when Daniël was in search of a cool continental vineyard, similar to those in Europe. He found the Kanolfontein farm in Sutherland and planted the first vines in 2004. At 1500 metres above sea level and 350 kms from the Indian Ocean, this is the highest and coldest wine growing region in Africa. Vineyards are covered in snow in the winter and produce a unique structure that sets the wines apart from South African coastal wines.
