‘Grapes from a Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge vineyard planted in 2012. Matured for 12 months in 228-litre barrels, 26% new. The aromatics are hugely complex, with a floral perfume leading into red and black berries, herbs, earth and spice. The palate is well structured without being too weighty – great clarity of fruit, vibrant acidity and powdery tannins while the finish is exceptionally long and dry. A wine that combines poise and intricacy to breathtaking effect.’ - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 97/100

‘Hannes Storm's Ridge Pinot Noir uses grapes from a dry-farmed, 1.1-hectare parcel at La Vierge that's planted with 7,500 vines per hectare. Firmer and more backward than his other two Pinots, it has flavours of plum and orange zest, a hint of clove spice and the concentration and intensity to age beautifully in bottle. The finish goes on for a minute. 2025-32’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2024, 96/100

Producer information Hannes Storm has spent nearly 2 decades in the pursuit of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay perfection. No single SA winemaker is more dedicated or focused on growing and vinifying Pinot and it shows. After 12 years as winemaker at Hamilton Russell, he started his eponymous label Storm Wines in 2012, and has since been focusing on the best-suited sites for this challenging variety. The remarkable Storm trio – the Ignis, Ridge and Vrede Pinot Noirs each come from one of the three appellations in the Hemel-en-Aarde. Storm Wines is the only producer with Pinots from each of these three appellations. If you have not tried these, you are missing out on South Africa’s benchmark Pinot Noirs.
