''Nowhere to hide' on this vineyard- & bunch-selection unwooded sauvignon, & 2020 displays no reticence, instead elegance & power. Excellent balance between green & tropical fruit, leesy intensity adds texture & weight with creamy, herbal finish.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (94/100)

'Elunda Basson uses grapes from Steenberg's two best Sauvignon Blanc vineyards to produce this weighty but unoaked white. Leesy, creamy and intense, with blackcurrant leaf acidity and a palate that combines grapefruit and mangetout flavours. Drink 2021-24.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 92/100

'In any event, the youthful charms of Steenberg Black Swan 2020 are difficult to resist. Elunda Basson’s first vintage as winemaker, vinification involved 18 hours of skin contact and nine months on the lees after fermentation. The nose shows gun smoke, floral perfume, fennel and white peach while the palate is marked by pure fruit and a great line of acidity – really good depth of flavour with some white pepper bite to the finish.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 92/100

'The Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc 2020 is a pure expression of the Steenberg terroir and shows notes of nettle, gunflint, elderflower and fynbos on the nose, while the palate supports the aromas with fresh lemon zest and subtle hints of stone fruit and asparagus. A mouth-watering acidity accompanies a full and long finish achieved with extended lees contact in tank. This is a wonderful food wine and will reward cellaring of between 10 – 20 years.' – Elunda Basson, Winemaker

Producer information Steenberg, the Cape’s first farm, was established in 1682 by German immigrant Catharina Ras. It was originally named ‘Swaaneweide’ meaning ‘The Feeding Place of Swans’ and was home to geese (who were likely mistaken for swans) which still reside at Steenberg today. The original Manor House was declared a national monument in 1983. Graham Beck bought Steenberg Estate in April 2005 and today the property consists of a spa, hotel, restaurant, winery and golf course.
