Pear, peach, lime and some leesy character on the nose while the palate has great fruit concentration, driving acidity and a saline finish. 'Pale lemon straw colour with a straight clean nose of white stone fruit. We smell here on-ripe peach, citrus and grapefruit with some almond flavours from the wood with some undertones of river stone and wet hay with a touch of anise. On the palate, the layered complexity of tropical fruit and an earthiness accent... all this packed in a tight nightdress. Producer information Spioenkop Wines, situated in the Elgin Valley, was established in 2008 with Koen Roose as winemaker. Koen’s philosophy is that of low intervention, allowing the wines to express their region. His single-minded, terroir-driven approach encapsulates the passion that will redefine the Cape wine industry. Biodynamic practices are also followed, although Spioenkop is not certified biodynamic. The high altitude and cool climate of the Spioenkop terrior has aided in Spioenkop producing one of the finest Rieslings in SA. John Platter selected the 2013 as one of his 7 wines to present at the 2015 Swartland Revolution, saying that it was the finest South African Riesling that he has ever tasted.
