'The best Pinot Noir release yet from Shannon, this comes from a 0.5-hectare parcel in the middle of the Mount Bullet vineyard and is made entirely with the 113 clone. Savoury, complex and dense with remarkable concentration, scented wood, black cherry and raspberry fruit and impressive energy and freshness. A Cape Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru. 2022-29.' – Tim Atkin MW, 2021 SA Report, 96/100

'It has an amazing and enthralling nose of floral perfume, red and black berry fruit, and a subtle earthy depth. The palate follows with loads of promise – complex and layered with dried flowers, musk and berry fruit. Nicely rich and juicy with a deep structure. There is a wonderful range of red to black fruit with a taut and coiled intensity to match. Give it some time in the bottle. Should go 10 years and beyond.' – James Pietersen (May 2021)

'Considerable emphasis is placed expressing the vineyard characteristics. This vineyard expresses a range of flavours from vibrant raspberry, strawberry, currant and cherry. We respect the power and elegance delivered in this beautiful expression of a balanced bright red to darker berried flavour spectrum, delivered by the older Dijon clones PN 113 in our Shannon “RocknRolla” Pinot Noir.' – Winemaker

Tasting notes on the 2018 vintage:
'Rock n Rolla comes from the oldest Pinot Noir block at Shannon and is entirely produced with the 113 clone. Wild fermented with 20% whole bunches, it has considerable grip, intensity and focus as well as layers of succulent, savoury red berry fruit. The best Rock n Rolla yet. Drink 2020-26.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 94/100

'Pinot noir from the farm’s oldest parcel, a registered single-vineyard. Wholly impressive, assertive 2018 rather dominated in youth by oak (50% new barrels, 12 months), but there’s intense, pure, sweet berry fruit flavour lurking, needing at least a few years in bottle. No 2017.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (94/100)

Producer information The name Shannon pays homage to the owner’s ancestors who come from Irish descent. Located in the Elgin Valley within the Kogelberg Biosphere, Shannon Vineyards’ unique terroir speaks for itself. With the Peninsula Dam creating the eastern boundary of the farm, the vineyards experience a cooling blanket of mist which is such a great geographical influencer on the farm’s climate, that Shannon has included the river mist in their logo. As such, the winemaking follows a minimal intervention approach to allow the different terroirs to be expressed in the wines.
