'87% Cinsault and 13% Pinotage, both vineyards on the Lower Helderberg. Winemaking involved round 50% and therefore slightly less whole-bunch fermentation than 2020. A slight note of reduction before cherry and pomegranate plus hints of flowers and herbs. The palate is again light but wonderfully focused – good fruit definition, bright acidity and fine tannins, the finish nicely dry.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 92/100

'Cinsaut Noir, with only a touch Pinotage. The aim is to curate the uniqueness of these two vineyards sharing the same soil type fit to these cultivars for lighter expressions. Aiming at pureness of these cultivars by means of natural vinification methods (no additives or alterations to the juice or wine, except trace amounts of sulphites. No filtration and no fining). Just Cinsaut and Pinotage from oxidized soils aka sand with high silica content. Even though these two are not usually blended together, these two vineyards are unique by sharing a similar soil type, vine age and close ocean proximity that captures a common thread in tastiness, texture and vibrancy of their fruit. A “window” to light textured soils and its impact on lighter reds. For me this results into wines with fine textured tannins, impressive salinity and good fruit definition while the older vine complexity remains in the background.' – Bernhard Bredell, Winemaker

Producer information Scion refers to the top part of a plant/vine or can also mean 'the descendant of'. Sinai refers to the ‘Sinai Hill’ which is a granite hill in the lower Helderberg region. Bernhard Bredell used these words to create the name Scions of Sinai which is also applicable given that he is the 7th generation (descendant) of Bredell wine farmers. Scions of Sinai Wines mainly focus on curating the uniquely located vineyards of the Lower Helderberg region around a granite hill. Bernhard hopes that his wines express the vineyard, it’s soil and the vintage clearly and purely.
