Tim Atkin SA Report
‘Quartz and granite soils on the lower part of the Sinai Hill, close to False Bay, supply the grapes for this superb Pinotage from a block planted in 1976. Twenty per cent whole bunches add some texture and perfume to a layered, refined palate of cranberry and wild strawberry, understated oak and gentle, fine-grained tannins. 2025-32’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2024, 95/100

‘Grapes from a vineyard planted in 1976. Vinification as for the Cinsault. Top notes of rose, potpourri and fynbos before plum and black cherry on the nose. The palate is light-bodied with mouth-watering acidity, and firm but fine tannins which lend a pleasant, black-chocolate-like bitterness to the finish. Alc: 12.8%.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 94/100

Producer information Scion refers to the top part of a plant/vine or can also mean 'the descendant of'. Sinai refers to the ‘Sinai Hill’ which is a granite hill in the lower Helderberg region. Bernhard Bredell used these words to create the name Scions of Sinai which is also applicable given that he is the 7th generation (descendant) of Bredell wine farmers. Scions of Sinai Wines mainly focus on curating the uniquely located vineyards of the Lower Helderberg region around a granite hill. Bernhard hopes that his wines express the vineyard, it’s soil and the vintage clearly and purely.
