'What Bredell describes as a 'farmer’s rosé'- more substantial than your average pink wine but not quite a light red. Grapes from the lesser parts of the 1976 Lower Helderberg vineyard that also supplies his more premium Féniks bottling plus another 1996 vineyard that Bredell is keen to preserve. Around 25% whole-bunch fermentation, before eight months maturation in tank. Intense floral perfume, cherry and plum on the nose while the palate is juicy and bright with soft tannins. Cheerful and charming.' – Christian Eedes,, 90/100

'Two Maritime Pinotage bushvine vineyards from the cooler climate part of Stellenbosch, in the Lower Helderberg area close to False Bay (South Atlantic). Aiming at a pure and lighter expression of the variety by means of natural vinification methods (no additives or alterations to the juice or wine, except trace amounts of sulphites. No filtration and no fining). Total SO2 less than 40ppm. Its roots are in oxidative soils aka sandy with high silica content in topsoil. The harvest is decided solely on the vibrant flavour and acidity to be in place as supposed to sugar “ripeness”. Both from shallower soil portions of the vineyard block. The open bushvines, poor soils together with the silica topsoil helps break down “green” flavours early on in ripening. Again fine texture, weightlessness and delicate fruit with a balanced acidity plays off in 2021, leaner in style than 2020 and 2019 though.' – Bernhard Bredell, Winemaker

Producer information Scion refers to the top part of a plant/vine or can also mean 'the descendant of'. Sinai refers to the ‘Sinai Hill’ which is a granite hill in the lower Helderberg region. Bernhard Bredell used these words to create the name Scions of Sinai which is also applicable given that he is the 7th generation (descendant) of Bredell wine farmers. Scions of Sinai Wines mainly focus on curating the uniquely located vineyards of the Lower Helderberg region around a granite hill. Bernhard hopes that his wines express the vineyard, it’s soil and the vintage clearly and purely.
