Savage Follow the Line 2023 Bottle size: 750ml
South Africa, Darling
R395
‘Follow The Line is a deceptively forward Cinsault that's good to drink on release, but ages remarkably well too. Alluringly ethereal and perfumed, it has what Duncan Savage terms "the purity of 2023", layers of goji berry, plum and pomegranate and more tannic presence than you appreciate at first. Very refined. 2026-35’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2024, 96/100
‘93% Cinsault and 7% Syrah from Darling. 50% whole-bunch fermentation. Matured for 12 months in foudre, amphora and neutral 500-litre barrels. Beguiling aromatics of cranberry, cherry, pomegranate, rose, fynbos and white pepper. The palate is pure and precise – intense but not weighty, lively acidity and powdery tannins. Intricate, taut and impressively long on the finish. Very, very smart Cinsault. Alc: 13%.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 96/100
‘Follow the Line always displays aromatic purity, strawberries, cherries, rose petals, violets and subtle white pepper. Soft and perfumed with the characteristic freshness of granitic soils. Follow the Line drinks beautifully young but will age well up to 8-10 years.’ – Winemaker

Producer information | Duncan Savage, a trailblazing winemaker, produces some of SA’s most sought-after wines. They are something of a contradiction; ‘savage’ in their essence of minimal intervention winemaking, but utterly sophisticated in their elegance, drinkability and poise. Every year his following grows, with some of these wines reaching a cult-like status. He sources grapes from across the Western Cape winelands and his cellars are based in Salt River. |
