'Nom stands for nombulelo (gratitude in 'Xhosa') and Nomkhubulwane (a forgotten African goddess of agriculture). Situated at 700m altitude, the vineyard is a place where gratitude is instilled and tales appear.' – Jessica Saurwein, Winemaker

'Priced just below its sibling Om, Nom is (just) the better of the two wines in 2020. Fresh, graceful and perfumed, it's like a Cape Chambolle-Musigny, with haunting perfume, fine- grained, savoury tannins, red cherry and raspberry fruit and engaging freshness. 2022-27.' – Tim Atkin MW, 2021 SA Report, 95/100

'The 2020 Pinot Noir shows an abundance of depth and intensity with aromatics brimming with notes of savoury red cherry, red currant, sappy freshly cut hedgerow and earthy, bramble berry spice nuances. The oak is incredibly well integrated and plays very much a minor backing track support role. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied but dense, wonderfully intense yet simultaneously weightless, fleshy and powerful with delicious savoury red and black berry fruits, ripe sun raisined sloe berries, roasted nuts, hints of wild strawberry and a full, opulent mouth coating finish with finely poised tannins and delightfully balanced acids. Another very detailed, opulent, savoury expression of Pinot Noir from the Cape. Drink this on release and over the next 8 to 10 years.' – Greg Sherwood MW, 94/100

'Very fragrant aromatics with notes of rose, musk, and spice before plum and red cherry. The palate is luscious – nice fruit weight, moderate acidity, and soft, powdery tannins. Alcohol: 14.17%.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 91/100

'The wine has red cherry, forest bramble, rose hip, earthy aromatics, cacao, unique orange rind character imparted by the vineyard site on the nose followed by red and black cherry fruit flavours, umami, roasted chestnuts ending in velvety medium grained tannins. The wine is delicious now and will gather further complexity with age. Drink: 2021 – 2031.' – Jessica Saurwein, Winemaker

Grape origin:
This Kaaimansgat Vineyard in the Elandskloof Valley has shale soils with a significant portion of granite in the topsoil and clay throughout. It lies at 700 m above sea-level and is surrounded by tall mountains, making for a unique terroir ideal for the optimal ripening of this cultivar. There was wind during set, that led to tiny berries (high grape to juice ratio) and thus great concentration in the wine and intensity without weight. Pinot noir clones 115, 667 & 777. The vineyard was planted in 2008.
