'A blend of several small parcels, this was my first chance to taste the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Habemus Papam out of bottle. It lives up to the high expectations I had for it out of foudre, combining lively red-berried fruit with silky-textured tannins. Raspberries and garrigue, dried spices and fine leather notes all feature on the nose and linger on the finish, while the palate is medium to full-bodied, yet virtually weightless at the same time. Producer information Founded in 1874, Domaine Santa Duc is one of the top producers in the Gigondas appellation. As Robert Parker writes, 'For more than a decade, Domaine Santa Duc has been one of the jewels of Gigondas.' Since its creation, six generations have succeeded each other at Domaine Santa Duc, each adding their own contribution to the wines. Today Benjamin Gras manages the domaine after taking over from his father, Yves Gras. The domaine focuses on Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsaut and they follow biodynamic and organic farming practices.
