Tasting notes:
'Perfumed pure-fruit charm on 2017 pinotage, also herbs, fynbos. Natural ferment, older oak, 13.2% alcohol. Ripe but elegant, firm lithe tannins; tight & compact; good dry finish. Interestingly, successfully placed between modern lighter, fresher style & traditional bigness.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (93/100)

'I found the wine nicely accessible and cheering to drink but ultimately a little more prosaic than its back-story might suggest. The nose shows some attractive floral perfume to go with plums, black cherries and earth while the palate is well balanced with concentrated fruit, bright acidity and quite soft tannins, the finish gently savoury. It’s not unaccomplished but the Pinotage category, in general, seems to have got a lot more competitive just recently.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 90/100

'The wine is perfumed with a pure fruited plum undertone. Top notes of oriental spices and cardamom seeds intrigue on the nose. The palate is linear and firm. Layers of fruit add to the complexity and depth. The wine is balanced with elegant yet lithe tannins.' – Rudiger Gretschel, Winemaker

Alc: 13.2% | RS: 1.3 g/L | TA: 5.6 g/L | PH: 3.72

About Swartberg Wingerde:
Rudiger Gretschel is the Production Director at Vinimark and oversees winemaking at Reyneke and Krone. He has created wine under his own label after almost 20 years of searching for the perfect parcel in Piekenierskloof. The special block he found 10 years ago is a 2.4 hectare plot of pinotage located on the top of the Piekenierskloof plateau, owned by Dr Jurgens Hanekom. The vines are cared for naturally; there is no tilling of soil, no seeding of cover crops or any form of herbicides usage.
