'The follow-up to our bestselling Chenin Blanc ever, the 2019 Skeleton Bay Chenin is startling in its complexity and, to our mind, it’s a step up on stellar 2018. Reigned in florals, white stone fruit, fresh-cut pear and mineral notes lead to an impressive palate of nuanced stone fruit, racy, delineated acidity and a long-lasting saline finish. Wow, what a finish! It offers so much flavour. The wine is utterly delicious now but it opens up brilliantly over a few days hinting at the pedigree of this classy 2019 Chenin. Sourced from two special vineyards, naturally fermented and raised in older oak, the wine is pure class. 'Grapes were picked early morning from thirty year old vines, whole bunch pressed and the juice was allowed to settle overnight. Fermentation in 20 old Burgundy barrels. Aged on primary lees for 9 months.' – Winemaker

Tasting notes on the 2018 vintage:
'Matured in older oak for nine months. Grapes from two old bush vine blocks, one near Joostenberg and the other in Somerset West. A beguiling nose with top notes of blossom and herbs before lemon, naartjie and peach. The palate is light bodied yet simultaneously immensely concentrated with fresh acidity and a savoury, slightly bitter finish. Plenty of subtle intricacy. Schultz Family Wines is the ‘own label’ of Rudi Schultz, the winemaker at Thelema in Stellenbosch since 2000. He comes from a family of winemakers and avid surfers and his wines are influenced by this passion for surfing. Some of the wine labels were created depicting his favourite surfing spots, and he has won awards for these label designs.
