'The 2018 Rouget is not going to win any prizes for subtlety, but it sure is delicious. Racy and flamboyant to the core, the 2018 saturates the palate with super-ripe red fruit, mocha, spice and copious new French oak. I would give the tannins a few years to soften. There is certainly a lot to look forward to. Readers should expect a dense, heady style. Drink 2026-2043.' – Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 93/100 (Mar 2021)

'Grilled oak influence on the nose, with excellent density to the flavours through the palate. Needs time to open up but it works and really has a sense of confidence and personality. 30% new oak. Drinking Window 2026 - 2045.' – Jane Anson, Decanter, 93/100 (Nov 2020)

'Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Rouget offers up expressive scents of baked black cherries, blackberry preserves and boysenberries with hints of underbrush, pencil lead and cedar chest, plus a waft of bouquet garni. The full-bodied palate is chock-full of muscular, oak-infused black fruit with lots of earthy accents and a sturdy frame of firm, grainy tannins, finishing just a little warm and tannic. There is a lot going on here, but it's all a bit disjointed right now. Give it a good 4-5 years in bottle and drink it over the next 15 years or more. Drink 2025-2040.' – Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate, 91+/100 (Mar 2021)

'The 2018 Rouget is extraordinarily ripe on the nose, featuring luscious black cherries, kirsch, iodine and raisin aromas, and becoming quite lactic with continued aeration. To be honest, I find that the ripeness shades the Pomerol DNA, so that served blind I would struggle to identify where it is from. The palate is, again, very ripe and dense, offering plush, sweet tannins, plenty of new oak and a decadent, dark-chocolate-tinged finish. This is a huge wine, but it flirts with just being a bit trop. Drink 2024-2044.' – Neal Martin, Vinous, 90/100 (Mar 2021)

'Inky crimson to dark cherry core. Smells of really dark fruit, both pure and a little charry, stony too. Bone-dry fine-grained firm tannins. Deeply chewy but with plenty of really dark, almost rocky fruit on the palate. Needs a lot of time but promises increasing finesse. Just fresh enough and very slightly bitter on the finish. Drink 2025-2035.' – Julia Harding MW,, 16.5/20 (Oct 2020)
