‘Whites from López de Heredia are legendary, and Viña Gravonia rightfully earns its place in the pantheon,’ says Vinous. The 2016 Gravonia Blanco Crianza is produced from 45 to 92-year-old vines in the Zaconia vineyard. 100% Viura, it shines brightly and is ‘one of the best’ (James Suckling).
The pack also includes the classic red Riojan Reservas, the 2012 Viña Tondonia, 2013 Viña Bosconia, and finally some of the best value red in the wine world – the 2016 Viña Cubillo Crianza. The Cubillo is ‘spectacular, elegant, clean and fresh like few vintages before’ and ‘indeed a bargain’, enthuses Luis Gutiérrez of the Wine Advocate.
López de Heredia are our favourite traditionalists, and the Gran Reserva reflects their old-school craftsmanship. Their reds show spice and cherries, tertiary flavours like tobacco, forest floor and umami notes, along with silky, super fine-grained tannins and a never-ending finish.
