‘From a 1986 block on Kaapzicht situated on very sandy soils. Matured for seven months in older 500-litre barrels. Pretty aromatics including floral perfume, hay, apple and citrus while the palate has that density that old vines so often lend but is paradoxically light – alcohol is just 11.5%. A nice viscosity (thanks in part to a residual sugar of 4g/l) plays off against punchy acidity. Well balanced and entirely charming.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 91/100

| Producer information | Kayleigh Hattingh, assistant winemaker at Kaapzicht, started her own label, Rebel Rebel, with her maiden release 2020 Syrah and 2021 Colombar. Kayleigh studied viticulture and oenology at Stellenbosch University and thereafter gained winemaking experience in SA, Napa Valley and Spain. Her passion for minimal intervention, terroir-driven wines has led her to create her maiden releases from special sites in Bottelary, Stellenbosch. ‘The first time I walked through this vineyard and tasted these grapes, I dreamt of making wine from this very special site. Finally, in 2020, that became a reality,’ says Kayleigh. |
