From a very small vineyard in Wellington, the 2020 Cinsault Blanc (which started as an experiment and is the only rendition of this variety in SA) is the purest expression so far. It is light with impressive fruit and vinosity. Only one amphora was produced.

'Matured in a clay amphora for 10 months. The nose is shy but subtle notes of citrus, peach and hay can be detected. The palate is better balanced than previous vintages – good fruit definition and freshness. Relatively broad with nice texture and plenty of flavour. 'The loads of extra work going into this vineyard combined with a more moderate growing season and much better rainfall has really helped to achieve a bigger and more healthy canopy and given us the opportunity to harvest later and a bit riper than the past while still retaining good acidity.

In the cellar the grapes where whole bunch pressed and the "dirty" juice transferred straight to amphora to ferment and then mature on its primary lees until bottling at around 8 months. The resulting wine has the same linear and savoury quality of the past vintages but there is definitely an extra layer of fruit and more texture in 2020. Still made from the only registered 0.2ha Cinsault blanc vineyard planted on granite in Wellington; this truly is a unique and almost forgotten SA grape variety.' – Donovan Rall, Winemaker

'Now into its third vintage - and showing its highest alcohol yet at a towering 11% alcohol - this very rare Cinsault Blanc is sourced from a 0.2-hectare parcel on granite in Wellington.
