‘12.5% alcohol. Fresh, bright and aromatic with some green herby hints as well as vibrant plum and strawberry fruit. Bright and quite elegant, with sweet raspberry, cherry and plum fruit on the palate as well as some notes of spice, tar and wet stones. This has lovely poise: it tastes quite Elgin-like, with that stony, savoury, slightly grunty twist under the vibrant fruit, which melts away into silky elegance on day two after opening. Massive drinkability and nice frehness.’ – Jamie Goode, Wineanorak.com,93/100

‘Grapes from Devon Valley, Stellenbosch and Bot River. Carbonic maceration (including a small portion left as whole bunch) before maturation lasting nine months in old oak. Subtle notes of red cherry and musk on the nose while the palate is light bodied with pure fruit, bright acidity and fine tannins, a slightly salty quality to the finish. A charming rendition of the variety.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 91/100

‘Full bottle 1,160, smart screwcap. Grapes from two vineyards, one in Bot River and the other in Stellenbosch. The Stellenbosch vineyard is 12 years old, east-facing with deep, rich Clovelly soils. Picked early to retain acid. The Bot River vineyard is 15 years old, north-facing and planted with Burgundian clone 115, on koffieklip soils. Good rainfall in the winter of 2020 ensured great growing vigour, but strong winds during October and November resulted in a smaller harvest than 2020. The fruit from both vineyards was co-fermented using ambient yeast and whole berries. Basket pressed then matured in a combination of 228-litre and 300-litre Burgundian barrels. Minimal SO2 added before bottling. Unfined. Light to mid garnet, showing some maturity in the colour with a slightly watery bricky rim. But such freshness and Pinot-ness on the nose: zesty, non-sweet red fruits jump out of the glass along with a lightly earthy savour and the most subtle of oak impressions. Juicy and sweeter-fruited on the palate, red cherry with a touch of vanilla sweetness yet kept fresh by the acidity and the fine-boned tannins. Lively, pure, precise. Relatively straightforward but delicious. Drink cool. Like all the wines in the Radford Dale Vinum range, authentic and expressive of both origin and variety as well as GV. Mouth-watering persistence. I upped my score on the day after opening, as it seemed to benefit from aeration.’ – Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5

‘The berries coming in off these vineyards were co-fermented naturally. We made use of our hoist system which enables us to carefully manage the whole berries into tank for fermentation. After fermentation is complete, we use a basket press to carefully manage extraction of tannin. The wine was matured in a combination of 228l and 300l Burgundian barrels. Minimal SO2 added & this bottling is was not fined.’ – Radford Dale
