‘The 2010 Phelan Ségur has a really lovely bouquet with brambly red fruit, brown spices, touches of damp undergrowth and tobacco. This feels complex and very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, good acidity, very harmonious with an elegant off-dry, slightly savoury finish. It is not the most ambitious Saint-Estèphe but there is plenty of charm here. I marked this wine down in the past, but it certainly beginning to blossom. | Producer information | The history of Château Phélan Ségur began with Irish owner Bernard Phélan. He acquired Clos de Garramey and Ségur de Cabanac and combined them to create Château Ségur de Garramey, as it was known then. Upon his death, the property was passed on to his son, Frank, who renamed the estate to Château Phélan Ségur. After passing through 2 more families, the estate was sold in 2017, for a record amount, to Philippe Van de Vyvere – owner of Sea-Invest, one of the world’s largest shipping companies. |
