'95% Grenache, 5% Syrah. A powerful, modern style, packed with ripe plums, violets and some spices. The palate is very long, as is the lingering aftertaste, and it has a great sense of harmony and purity. Excellent development potential. – Decanter World Wine Awards, 95/100

‘Even better, the 2017 Ventoux Ascensio is the old vine Grenache cuvée of the estate, and it's a superstar in 2017. Inky colored, with tons of plum and violets fruits as well as notes of graphite, ground pepper, violets, and crushed rocks, it's deep, full-bodied, and concentrated. This thrilling Grenache from the Ventoux will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for a decade or more.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, 94/100

'Tasted last summer, just after bottling, the 2017 Ventoux Ascensio—a blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Syrah, all matured in concrete—came across as tight and still suffering from the bottling process. Slightly lifted and peppery on the nose, it's full-bodied yet crisp, with tightly wound black berry fruit that could blossom with further bottle age.2021-2030.' – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 90+/100

'Fresh plum and boysenberry puree notes are lined with a licorice snap accent. Reveals a flash of violet on the lightly toasted finish. Grenache and Syrah.' – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 90/100

Producer information Château Pesquié, situated northeast of Avignon within the Rhône Valley, is a place that, according to Wine Spectator, looks like it has produced fine wines for decades. The estate consists of 250 acres of organic vineyards spread over the foothills of Mont Ventoux. Its landmark is the wind-whipped, white limestone peak that watches over the estate. Robert Parker calls Château Pesquié one of his 'all-time favorite producers in France', and their reputation confirms this after receiving more than a dozen 90-plus-point scores for their wines. Their wines are described as fresh, fruit-driven and exuberant, and are the best examples of today's Ventoux AOC bottlings.
