‘Mostly Grenache (5% Syrah), vinified with 30% whole bunches, in concrete vats, the 2016 Ventoux Ascensio sports an inky purple color as well as sensational notes of blackberries, plums, licorice, violet and crushed rocks. ‘The 2016 Ventoux Ascensio is 95% Grenache and 5% Syrah, vinified with 30% whole bunches and aged entirely in concrete. It's plummy and rich, giving an impression of sweetness similar to maple syrup (but being basically dry). Producer information Château Pesquié, situated northeast of Avignon within the Rhône Valley, is a place that, according to Wine Spectator, looks like it has produced fine wines for decades. The estate consists of 250 acres of organic vineyards spread over the foothills of Mont Ventoux. Its landmark is the wind-whipped, white limestone peak that watches over the estate. Robert Parker calls Château Pesquié one of his 'all-time favorite producers in France', and their reputation confirms this after receiving more than a dozen 90-plus-point scores for their wines. Their wines are described as fresh, fruit-driven and exuberant, and are the best examples of today's Ventoux AOC bottlings.
