‘Glorious finesse, depth, density and length. An amazing wine that deserves to be a first growth. Such vivid expression of bright fruit and floral aromatics, seamless integration of the 60% new oak and a palate with racy texture that approaches perfection. The tannins need several years to settle and that time will increase the wine's complexity as it approaches its optimal drinking window – and it has many years ahead. 2028-2065’ – Panos Kakaviatos, Decanter, 99/100

‘Massively rich already with density and opulence, this powerful wine is half-and-half Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The dark tannins presage aging for many years.’ – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 98/100

‘Great aromas of blackcurrants, black truffles, blueberries, lead pencil and hints of cedar. Full-bodied and powerful with fantastic tannin backbone giving it great length and power. Muscular. Toned. Flexing.’ – James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, 98/100

‘Depth, and nuance, with striking liqourice, crayon, cigar box and dark chocolate from the first moment. Combines grip and freshness, understated power, serious yet vivid character to its blue and black fruits, with mint leaf, spiced red pepper, pomegrante, incense and tobacco leaf. Precise, slow and seductive, packed with signature Palmer identity. 3.77ph, 55% of overall production, with 13% press wine. Thomas Duroux director. 2028-2048’ – Jane Anson, janeanson.com, 97/100

Producer information Château Palmer belonged to the Pereire family from 1843 to 1938. During that time the château underwent major improvements to modernize the estate and reconstruct the vineyards. In 1938, the château was sold to 4 wealthy Bordeaux families. After time, two of the families – the Mahler-Besse and the Sichel family – bought out the other two families, and to this day they are still the two major shareholders. Alter Ego was created in 1998 with the purchase of 8 additional hectares of vines. Château Palmer does not view this as a second wine due to the different plots used as well as the unique selection and blending approach in making Alter Ego.
