Tasting notes:
'The 2015 Palafreno is one of the more understated Tuscan Merlots readers will come across. This site, in the Ruffoli district of Greve, at 400 meters above sea level, yields a distinctly savory, nuanced Merlot that emphasizes energy and nuance over power, all of which make it a truly special and distinctive wine. Even in this warm year, Palafreno needs time in bottle to soften the tannins. Drinking window 2022 - 2035.' – Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 94/100 (Aug 2019)

'Intense ruby red. Aromas of ripe red and black fruit: blackberry, black cherry, blueberry and plum. Notes of eucalyptus and rosemary, hints of white pepper and roasted coffee. On the palate, it is balanced with excellent freshness, present but well-integrated tannins. Intense and full-bodied with a very long finish reminiscent of blueberry and menthol note.' – Simona Geri, Winesetter

About Querciabella:
The story of Querciabella began in 1974 when Giuseppe ‘Pepito’ Castiglioni purchased a single hectare of vineyards on a Tuscan hillside. He was an industrial entrepreneur by trade but his dreams and passions were in producing wine. In the mid-1990s Pepito’s son, Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni, took over the vineyards and took Querciabella’s reputation to new heights. He saw to it that Querciabella was one of the first wineries in Italy to convert to organic viticulture and was a pioneer in his biodynamic approach. Sebastiano’s passion for animal rights also led to the vegan certification of Querciabella. Today Querciabella’s vineyards span more than 100 hectares, located in Chianti Classico and Maremma and are planted with all the grape varieties that Pepito only dreamed of when purchasing that first hectare of vineyards.
