'Om symbolises the concept of universal creation. This word is also synonymous with peace. The vineyards are situated in the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge region (Heaven and Earth), a beautiful and peaceful place close to my heart.' – Jessica Saurwein, Winemaker

The 2019 Om Pinot Noir is a knockout; richer, deeper and more serious than maiden 2018 (92 NM, 91 TA and 94 GS).

Tasting notes:
'Resonantly named for a symbol of universal creation, peace. Riveting 2019 has sultry red berry fruit layered with silky tannins in a powerful expression. Textured but still refined & elegant. From Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge grapes.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (94/100)

'The Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge may be the youngest of the valley's three wards in terms of vineyard age, but it's producing increasingly impressive wines. This stony, sappy, savoury Pinot Noir, deftly wooded in 25% new barrels, has floral top notes, fresh acidity and subtle red cherry and pomegranate fruit. Drink 2021-27.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 93/100

'The 2019 Pinot Noir Saurwein Om is matured in 25% new oak for 10 months. It has a perfumed bouquet of strawberry pastilles, raspberry and touches of brown spice, all well defined and with plenty fruit. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry, then you feel the structure exert a gentle grip. Black fruit laced with touches of black pepper on the aftertaste. Give it another year in bottle. Drink 2022-2034.' – Neal Martin, Vinous, 91/100 (Apr 2021)

'2019 was another dry vintage in the Cape, leading to tiny grapes and wines with a high grape to juice ratio. Grapes are hand-picked, hand-sorted, grapes are cold-soaked, fermentation is spontaneous, post-fermentation maceration is complete when the tannins are optimal, minimum of 10 months in 228L French oak barrels (new and older). On the nose: red forest berry and bramble berry fruit, red cherries, rose perfume, fragrant sumac and cumin spice. On the palate: red forest fruit, beetroot earthiness, fresh hibiscus, fruit-coated tannin and crisp acidity, medium-bodied.' – Jessica Saurwein, Winemaker

Grape origin:
Place of the Gods Farm, Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, Walker Bay, Hermanus. This dryland vineyard is situated just 12 km from the sea and lies at 300 m above sea-level. The soils are granite origin with a significant portion of clay.
