Olivier Leflaive, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet 750ml 2015France, Burgundy
One of Burgundy’s most impressive names, Olivier Leflaive is recognised as much for the consistent quality and style of its wines as for the sheer breadth of its range. ‘Today, he is one of Burgundy’s top white wine producers and the maison wines match the domaine wines for their sheer quality, class and longevity!’ – Roland
The Leflaive family have been Burgundy producers for many decades but, in 1984, Olivier Leflaive set up his merchant house producing wines under his own label from his own vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet. To establish his estate, he purchased 12 hectares of land in prestigious appellations including village Meursault to the Grands Crus of Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet. Today, Olivier Leflaive controls all the winemaking and the ageing of the wines. Each vintage benefits from an individual approach and guarantees the authenticity of each appellation.
'The négociant wines at Olivier Leflaive can be every bit as good as the domaine bottling, such is his skill at sourcing excellent grapes. This Bienvenues is a case in point: fresh, focused and effortlessly complex with subtle cinnamon oak and tangy lemon, lime and grapefruit freshness. One of the best whites of the vintage. Drink 2020-28.' – Tim Atkin MW, 95/100
'This is aromatically quite similar to the Pucelles which complements well the delicious and extract-rich medium weight plus flavors that possess excellent density on the vibrant, mouth coating and strikingly long finish. This isn't quite as intense as the Pucelles today but my sense is that it will tighten up once it is bottled.' – Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 91-94/100
