'The 2007 Numanthia is marginally more approachable but it, too, is a dense, layered, voluminous, structured wine. Given the requisite cellaring, it will eventually become both elegant and powerful.' – Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, 94+/100

'Opaque purple. Higher-pitched than the Termes, displaying scents of spicy red berries, cherry and rose, plus a hint of smokiness. Juicy, strikingly fresh red fruit flavors are lifted by tangy minerality and are framed by silky tannins. Distinctly graceful for a wine with such serious palate impact, showing building spiciness on the long, sappy, focused finish. I suspect that this wine will be drinkable on the young side but it's balanced to age.' – Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 92/100

'This rich red brims with ripe, fresh flavors of blackberry and cassis, backed by toasty chocolate and dried spice notes that caress the palate and linger on the finish. Plush yet structured, in the modern style.' – Wine Spectator, 92/100

'Stocky, dark and pure, with inky aromas of shoe polish, black fruits and charcoal. The palate is brawny and tannic, with saturated blackberry, espresso and bitter chocolate flavors. It's rowdy but also attractive and full of everything good including chocolate, spice and pepper on the finish.' – Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, 91/100

Producer information Over the past 20 years, Spain has become the most dynamic wine region in Europe,' says Wine Spectator, referring to the emergence of modern icons like Numanthia that offer a combination of power and elegance never seen before. While vineyards in the Toro region have been tended since Roman times, Numanthia came into being in 1998, capturing the essence of vineyards up to 150 years old. Numanthia and its baby brother Termes are opposite in style to traditional Rioja such as López de Heredia, for example.
