The Niepoort family has been creating Port Wines since 1842. The first property in Douro was bought in 1987 and Dirk Niepoort started a new Era in the company with the creation of the first Redoma red in 1991. In the last years Niepoort took on the great challenge of interpreting other soils and climates and acquired two properties in other regions, Dão and Bairrada. Discover the Niepoort Triangle which express the different terroirs: Schist (Douro), Limestone (Bairrada) and Granite (Dão).

With Redoma they try year on year to express what they consider the Douro character with the edgy tannins representing the wilderness and the steepness of the vineyards. The strong character results from the mountain hard viticulture and the mineral notes express the schist’s soils of the region together with the rich aroma accompanied by the sunny summer days in the Region. Redoma was the first Douro still wine produced by Niepoort in 1991 and 21 years later many things have changed in Douro but Redoma has kept its character.

Produced from several north facing old vineyards over 60 years old, located in the Cima Corgo Region which is the geographic center of the region, the blends in the different vineyards include Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão.

The current vintage has yet to be tasted, the notes below are from the 2015 vintage:
'The 2015 Redoma Reserva Branco is Niepoort's familiar field blend, often his best white in an obviously oaked style. When you first taste and smell this, it is all about the oak, but you'll eventually notice how that affects texture far more than flavor. As it sits in the glass and warms, this very young Redoma Reserva shows off its velvety texture and caressing mouth feel. It is surprisingly sexy as it warms, but there is also steel underneath. That gradually counters the wood. Showing fine tension on the finish and an increasingly fresh demeanor as it sits, this looks like a terrific Redoma Reserva. It should age very well. They usually do and this vintage has the freshness to help it along. If it develops some complexity, as anticipated, it may be entitled to an uptick, but let's see it finish pulling in that wood.' – Wine Advocate 93/100
