Van Loggerenberg Kameraderie Chenin Blanc 2022 – R535, CE 95
From dryland bush vines planted in 1966 and 1980 in the Swartland, the 95-point Kameraderie Chenin 2022 is visceral and textured with yellow stone fruit, basil stem and dried fynbos notes. The wine is partially fermented in concrete which adds to the tightness and finish, making it a serious, moreish Chenin in 2022.
Van Loggerenberg Geronimo Cinsault 2022 – R325, CE 95
Lukas describes the Geronimo 2022 as ‘a cinsault that should have gravitas’. Mostly from a vineyard planted in 1978 in Firgrove, Stellenbosch, this Cinsault has attractive floral and spice aromatics. There’s inviting salinity and depth of fruit with chewy tannins – the perfect companion to boeuf bourguignon.
Van Loggerenberg Lötter Cinsault 2022 – R535, CE 94
The Lötter Cinsault 2022, on the other hand, is almost Nebbiolo-like and slow to unfurl. From the second oldest registered red wine vineyard in the country, there’s an understated power about it. The structure and pure fruit carry through to a long, chalky finish. It’s ‘a cinsault that brought me back to nature’, explains Lukas
Van Loggerenberg Breton Cabernet Franc 2022 – R400, CE 94
The quality of the tannins in the Breton 2022 builds the layers of fruit, florals and spice to a crescendo, lingering for a solid minute on your palate. Saline and refreshing, with 25% whole bunch, this is a benchmark Cabernet Franc in SA.
Van Loggerenberg High Hopes Red Blend 2022 – R325, CE 93
‘Already wonderfully approachable’ (CE), the High Hopes Red Blend is 88% Syrah in 2022 with 9% Grenache and 3% Cinsault. Brooding, juicy and aromatic, the wine is reminiscent of a first-class Southern Rhône blend and should be kept on hand for every dinner party.
