Back then, in the early 1900’s, winemaking was very traditional and devoid of the additives and manipulations that are so prevalent these days. About Myburgh Bros:
The Myburgh Bros, Johannes and Jacobus, farmed grapes and made wine in the late 1800s and early 1900s on what is now Joostenberg farm. The farm was much larger then, and grapes were only a small part of their farming activities. They gained notoriety for their wines, winning an award for the second best Hermitage in 1904. Direct descendants of Johannes, brothers Philip and Tyrrel Myburgh have created the Myburgh Bros label to pay homage to their forebears.
