'80% whole-bunch fermentation. Again, very forthcoming on the nose with notes of red and black berries, floral perfume, fynbos and white pepper. The palate is medium bodied (alcohol: 13.5%) yet full of dense fruit and tightly packed tannins – pure and fresh with a real crunch to it, this should mature very well over the next five to 10 years. Total production: 23 388 bottles and 167 magnums.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100

‘Our most important wine", says Chris Mullineux of this granite, schist and iron-sourced pan-regional Syrah. Fermented with 50% whole bunches, it's intense, smooth and violet perfumed with succulent red berry and blackberry fruit, notes of thyme and rosemary, subtle oak and caressing tannins. 2022-27’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 93/100

‘Blend of 3 soil types featured in Terroir range, half the barrel time (12 months). Smooth & supple 2019 has all the perfume, length, texture & tannin that defines Swartland syrah plus a white pepper spiciness & slight green walnut grip.’ &ndash, Cathy Van Zyl, Platter’s Guide, 4.5*(93/100)

‘2019 is one of our best vintages of Mullineux Syrah to date. Since the great drought in the Western Cape which started in 2014, the vines had beautifully adapted, resulting in wines with superb complexity and an incredibly balanced intensity. This Swartland Syrah has a classic perfume of wild-growing white Watsonia Lilies, fresh mulberries and black olive pips. The structured palate follows through with intricate layers of kumquats, dark plums, sour cherry and star anise and finishes with powerful and velvety tannins. Best served at 16 to 18 °C and whilst the wine will benefit greatly from ageing, it could also be enjoyed young if preferred, with decanting then recommended.’ – Mullineux and Leeu Family Wines

Producer information At the cutting-edge of SA fine wine, the Mullineuxs have received many ground-breaking awards and, since 2007, have focused their Swartland efforts on Syrah and Chenin Blanc. Their extensive knowledge of Swartland soils, and what Andrea calls a 'growing technical maturity', has consistently led to the release of some of the most definitive expressions of the Swartand's various terroirs. With over a decade of dedication to winemaking in the Swartland, and considering the consistency and track record across their various bottlings, Chris and Andrea Mullineux are one of SA's top producers.
