'Last made back in 2014, Schist is produced with grapes from the Roundstone property. Elegant, crisp and perfumed with jasmine and aniseed aromas, some mid-palate cream and texture, sappy minerality and the faintest whisper of oak spices. Drink 2022-27.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 95/100

'From own vineyards on the Kasteelberg – first vintage since 2014. The nose shows lemon and naartjie plus some leesy complexity. The palate is rich but balanced with impressive depth of flavour and nicely integrated acidity. There’s a initially a certain breadth and thickness of texture to this wine, although the finish is long and savoury.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100

'The 2020 growing season consisted of warm days and cool nights, which contributed to the inviting phenolic balance, full palate and jubilant freshness that you would come to expect from SCHIST soils in these growing conditions. With nuances of Asian pear and fennel bulb, combined with fresh quince and ruby grapefruit, these are precisely the highlights that lead to a great texture and zesty finish, synonymous with Chenin Blanc grown on SCHIST soils. The ageing potential is 10 to 20 years, and this wine will show optimally if decanted when drunk within the first 3 years after bottling.' – Andrea Mullineux, Winemaker

Producer information At the cutting-edge of SA fine wine, the Mullineuxs have received many ground-breaking awards and, since 2007, have focused their Swartland efforts on Syrah and Chenin Blanc. Their extensive knowledge of Swartland soils, and what Andrea calls a 'growing technical maturity', has consistently led to the release of some of the most definitive expressions of the Swartand's various terroirs. With over a decade of dedication to winemaking in the Swartland, and considering the consistency and track record across their various bottlings, Chris and Andrea Mullineux are one of SA's top producers.
